IV Sedation: Does It Really Improve Your Dental Experience?

Dental Sedation IV Bag

Have you ever been anxious about going to the dentist? Dental anxiety is a serious condition that affects hundreds of patients who come to our facilities in Flower Mound and Denton Texas. That is why we offer IV Sedation. IV Sedation really does help relieve anxiety and pain during procedures to allow for a smooth and easy procedure. A common question we receive is how does IV sedation work to relieve anxiety. Here is how.

How IV Sedation Relieves Anxiety

As board-certified oral surgeons, we are specially trained on how to use IV sedation to best provide comfort during procedures. How this works is by administering the sedative liquid through the IV which then causes you to either enter a relaxed state or even sleep through the entire procedure.

The difference between entering a relaxed state or sleeping through a procedure is a small one. For some, going fully unconscious may induce even greater anxiety or may lead to health complications. But the relaxed state still has the same effect as sleeping through the procedure as the patient does not feel pain and does not remember the procedure once it has concluded.

Once you have either reached the relaxed or unconscious state, we stop the flow of medication and begin the procedure. We know, based on information gathered in the preoperative meeting, exactly how much medication we need to give you to make it through the full procedure giving us the time we need to operate and you a quick and easy return to consciousness afterward.

The best part about IV sedation is in giving the confidence to go through a procedure without having to remember it. Without worry or fear, we can provide the highest quality care possible and provide comfort throughout the procedure.
